Former TVAM host Joe Mifsud heading to RTK

Malta Independent Wednesday, 21 August 2013, 10:05 Last update: about 11 years ago

Joe Mifsud, a lawyer by profession, will be heading to RTK radio after spending two years at the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) presenting the morning show TVAM.

Speaking to The Malta Independent, Dr Mifsud said that the aim behind his former programme was “to get people to think, and not to in any way impose an agenda.”

“We were never accused of libelling anyone, and we always confronted the serious issues. There was criticism but people wanted to participate in our programmes. You got to hear everyone’s views, from the archbishop to the Prime Minister,” Dr Mifsud said.

Dr Mifsud says that former PBS editor Natalino Fenech and PBS CEO Anton Attard always allowed both him and his co-host Pierre Portelli to speak their mind, so long as the code of ethics and editorial guidelines of the PBS board were respected.

Dr Mifsud said that he never shirked away from taking a line on certain issues, such as immigration, where he firmly believes that Malta must observe international law.

His new programme on RTK will air every Thursday between 5:30pm – 7pm. He said that it will be a current affairs programme, tackling topical subjects from every angle.

Dr Mifsud, who was not contacted by PBS since his last programme on 28 June, admits that were he offered the TVAM slot again, he would have accepted it.
