A total of 1,255 parking bays in Valletta are reserved, mainly for the city’s residents, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi revealed in parliament.

In a reply to a parliamentary question by district MP Claudio Grech, Mr Mizzi noted that 32 parking bays were reserved for official government cars, including 2 outside of the city’s Controlled Vehicular Access area, while a further 121 were reserved for ministries, including 84 non-CVA parking bays.

A further 203 parking bays, including 49 outside the CVA area, are marked yellow, and are variously reserved for blue card holders, taxis, electric cabs, karozzini or loading bays.

But the vast majority of reserved parking bays are reserved for residents, and most of these are actually blue parking bays, which are only reserved between 7pm and 7am.

There are a total of 577 blue parking bays, of which just 10 are outside the CVA. The number of green parking bays, which are reserved for residents all day, is 322, including 107 non-CVA parking bays.

The figures show that the majority of parking bays within the CVA are reserved, albeit only at night.

The number of white parking bays within the CVA is 629, with an additional 55 parking bays for motorcycles.

Mr Mizzi also said that there were 896 parking bays outside of the CVA, though it is unclear whether this number also includes reserved parking bays. There are also an additional 6 spaces for motorcycles.
