'Private sector no longer has to fear Tonio Fenech' - Cardona

Malta Independent Wednesday, 13 November 2013, 12:51 Last update: about 11 years ago

Economy Minister Chris Cardona today said that the private sector no longer has to endure sleepless nights in fear of incurring former finance minister Tonio Fenech’s wrath.

“A few weeks ago when we announced that energy tariffs would be reduced, they said it was an Alice in Wonderland proposal;. Now they are asking why we will not be reducing them for industry. We will be doing that in 2015 as promised. What we will definitely not be doing is increasing tariffs like Tonio Fenech did during the economic crises,” Dr Cardona said.

Dr Cardona disputed the claim that unemployment is on the rise.

“This government was always clear and honest. It is the private sector that will drive growth. Eurostat shows that employment is being created by the government. The Opposition cannot believe that the government managed more in six months that the PN administration did in five years,” Dr Cardona said.
