The widow of a man who caused a fireworks explosion in Naxxar in 2008 was ordered by the Court of Appeal to pay €8,400 in damages.

MIB Insurane Brokers (Malta) Ltd had filed a case against Maria Camilleri and her late husband Paul Camilleri, who lost his life in the explosion, claiming that, Robert Runza, insured by the company, had suffered damages to his property.

The illegal fireworks store kept by Mr Camilleri in his residence exploded on 12 March, 2008.

Mrs Camilleri testified that she had renounced to her husband's inheritance and that she was not personally responsible for any damages allegedly caused by her husband.

But in October 2010 the Magistrates Court dismissed her pleas and found in favour of MIB.

Mrs Camilleri then appealed to the Court of Appeal which now dismissed the appeal and confirmed the Magistrates Court judgment.
