Saul - The road to Damascus is the title of the Malta-shot film by Cittadella Films which will be showing at the Eden Cinemas during the Easter period.  The film is a self-containing pilot of a TV-based series based on the Acts of the Apostles; and is written and director by Mario Philip Azzopardi.  The story plot retells the origins of the Christian Church; based on the Acts of the Apostles, most prominently the conversion of St Paul.

The main role will be played by Canadian actor Kyle Schmid, alongside John Rhys Davis and Emmanuel Vaugier. John Rhys Davis played Gimili the Dwarf in the blockbuster trilogy Lord of the Rings.

70% of cast members are Maltese including John Suda, Godwin Scerri, Larissa Bonaci and Joe Quattromani.  The movie, which was shot over a period of around 20 days, was mostly shot in Mellieha.

Cittadella Films, in collaboration with E-ONE, are hoping to produce and film another 12 episodes, which will compromise for the first season of the TV Series.

Biblical references state that Christianity in Malta, dating back to over 2000 years ago, was brought to the islands by St Paul himself, after he was shipwrecked.  According to tradition, the apostle took refuge in a cave in Rabat, now known as Il-Grotta ta' San Pawl.  The 10th of May each year now commemorates the feast of the island's patron saint.
