Express news from Mount Everest

Malta Independent Thursday, 17 April 2014, 10:24 Last update: about 11 years ago

After 12 days on the road the Everest 14 team are finally making their final approach to base camp. The journey has been riddled with uncertainty because of a delay in the issue of the Chinese entry visa.

The team is made up of mountaineer Gregory Attard, Raphael Fenech Adami, Matthew Xerri, Douglas Barbaro Sant.

Here is the latest update from the team:

From Kathmandu we made our way to Kodari the Nepalese boarder town with Tibet. After extensive security checks and controls we crossed the friendship bridge and entered china. The next two nights were spent in Nyalam. At 3600 meters temperatures were surprisingly cold. We are presently in Tingri which is at an altitude of 4300meters. All the group has acclimatised well and we are now ready to move on.

Yesterday, we got to see the impressive North face if Everest in all its glory for the first time. Base camp is at an altitude of 5150meters.

The team is doing great, moral is high and everyone is now very excited and eager to start climbing. Our experienced team of Sherpas have been with us for a few days and we are very happy with our choice. We hope the feeling is reciprocated.

We would to remind the public to help them in their cause to raise funds for Dar Tal Providenza.
