Malta Independent Friday, 2 May 2014, 17:45 Last update: about 11 years ago

Malta Public Transport said in a statement it has launched an internal investigation into reports it received yesterday of an argument between one of its drivers and some passengers on a route bus in Sliema that occurred early in the afternoon on the 1st May.

The passenger alleged that the driver’s behaviour was very inappropriate and that he did not allow her to re-board the bus after she had alighted temporarily to allow someone with a pushchair to alight from the bus.

“Malta Public Transport takes such reports very seriously and deeply regrets that our customers’ journey was marred by such incidents. Our primary concern is the safety and wellbeing of our passengers, and we will not spare any effort to establish the facts and to ensure that anyone involved in this incident is disciplined accordingly.”

The driver involved has since been identified and suspended from duty pending the outcome of the investigation in accordance with the bus operator’s internal procedure.

The bus operator has also got in touch with the witness who reported the incident but has so far been unable to make contact with the actual passengers involved in the incident.

Malta Public Transport would like to urge customers not to hesitate to contact its Customer Care Centre on telephone 2122-2000 or by email to [email protected] with any feedback, reports or requests for information they may have.
