PL MP Etienne Grech has joined Crisis Resolution Malta in its call for telephone helplines to be installed near known suicide hotspots. All that a person would need to do is to pick up the receiver and press a red button to speak with someone at the Crisis Intervention Unit. Dr Grech noted that many persons who end up in this situation would have switched off their mobile phone. “If this initiative can save at least one person then we would have done our job.”
The PL MP said that suicides are usually a cry for help from those who do not see a solution to their problem. Other conditions, like depression, can also be a contributing factor.
