Gozitan charged with running over police constable

54 year old Gregory Stellini, from Kercem Gozo was granted bail after he pleaded not guilty to running over and injuring Constable Savio Vasallo.

The incident took place in Kercem, last Sunday, at the end of the village feast. Allegedly, the accused tried to pass from a closed road, when the constable in question stopped him. Stellini argued with the constable, who issued a fine.  At that point, Stellini got back into his truck and ran the police over.

Stellini is also being charged of driving carelessly, and disobeying police orders.

He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €3000.

Dr Deborah Mercieca represented the accused while Inspector Bernard Spiteri prosecuted. Magistrate Joanne Vella Cuschieri presided.
