MCAST offers New Higher National Diploma courses (Level 5) on a Part-time Basis

As from this October MCAST will be offering Higher Diploma courses (Level 5) on a part-time basis. Students will have the opportunity to attend the lessons in the evening, a convenient option for individuals who cannot engage in full-time educational programmes due to employment, business, family or other commitments.

The College will be offering a record number of part-time courses this term totalling 265. These courses are particularly aimed at adults whose work or family commitments make it difficult for them to follow full-time education, but who would still like to acquire skills and qualifications to secure new jobs, seek career advancement or simply to learn more about subjects that interest them. Young students aged 16 and over also take up these courses to support their full-time education with additional knowledge, skills and experiences.

This year the College is offering 23 new courses which include Institute of Urban Tree Pruning,  MCAST Advanced Diploma in Water Technology and Operations, MCAST Higher Diploma in Environmental Conservation, Drawing and Painting Techniques, MCAST BTEC Higher National Diploma in Photography, Image Editing for Photographers – Foundation (offered also at Gozo Centre), Image Editing for Photographers – Advanced (offered also at Gozo Centre), MCAST Higher National Diploma in Masonry Heritage Skills (Kapumastru), MCAST Higher Diploma in Restoration of Wooden Artefacts , MCAST Award in Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Pipe Welding, MCAST Higher Diploma in Financial Services, Conflict Resolution Strategies , Techniques in Colour Correction, Understanding and Dealing with Anxiety, Braiding Updos, Maltese Sign Language and Deaf Culture, MCAST-BTEC Higher National Diploma in Health and Social Care (Management) , MCAST Award in Developing Applications of the Java Programming, Digital Graphics for Desktop and Digital Publishing, ECDL Advanced and Fibre Optics courses.

The September 2014 Part-Time Courses Booklet has been posted to all homes and businesses in Malta and Gozo. This Prospectus and Application Form may also be obtained from the MCAST Main Campus in Paola or from the MCAST Gozo Centres in Xaghra and Xewkija.
 

As from Monday 25 August applicants may apply on line through the website www.mcast.edu.mt/shortcourses or else come over to the MCAST Main Campus, Corradino Hill, Paola or at the Gozo Centre at Ghajnsielem. They may also fill in the application form found at the back of the prospectus and send it to the Office of Part-Time Courses, MCAST Main Campus, Corradino Hill, Paola PLA 9032. Alternatively, they may submit the application form at the MCAST Main Campus, between Monday 25 August to Friday 29 August from 08:30 to 16:00 and from Monday 1 September to Friday 12 September 2014, on weekdays from 0830hrs to 1900hrs.

Mr Stephen Cachia, Principal and CEO, mentioned that these part-time courses are aimed at those persons that cannot enroll on a full-time education due to various reasons. He also mentioned the record of part-time courses offered by the College this year, which include the new Higher National Diploma courses at Level 5 that are provided for the first time on a part-time basis. Mr Cachia also mentioned that the College is working to offer Blended Learning courses which include a mix of sessions on Campus as well as online e-learning modules.

Hon. Evarist  Bartolo spoke about MCAST’s important role in providing these courses as they provide opportunities to many to re-skill and upgrade their skills and knowledge  and therefore be more employable and contribute to the minimize the country’s skills gap.
