Transport Malta authorises installation of new speed camera at St Paul's Bay by-pass

Malta Independent Thursday, 28 August 2014, 16:48 Last update: about 11 years ago

Transport Malta has recently given its no objection to the the Local Councils Regional Committee (Northern region) to install new speed cameras along San Pawl il-Bahar By Pass in a measure aimed to curb excessive speed that has unfortunately become a regular occurance at this site.

The committee has been advocating the installation of such cameras as residents have complained of several inconvenience related to excessive speeding. The Authority has also taken onboard strong recommendations made during a recent traffic sitting judgement presided by Magistrate Dr. Francesco Depasquale, who urged the Authority to consider the installation of a speed camera to curb overspeeding abuses along San Pawl il-Bahar By Pass.

Road accident statistics collated by the Police and Transport Malta for the area also confirm that the By Pass has witnessed quite a number of accidents, some of which fatal, due to overspeeding.

The Authority urges motorists to respect the established speed limits and reminds drivers that driving at excessive speed is extremely dangerous.
