Malta Independent Sunday, 31 August 2014, 11:18 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Nationalist Party has taken umbrage over the fact that a second vessel has escaped from Maltese waters while the vesel was under arrest, as has been reported in various sections of the media.

The PN said in a statmeent that this incident is not an iolated one since last May, an oil tanker, whose crew had been slapped with an arrest warrant, sailed freely out of Maltese waters unchallenged. The Prime Minister had ordered an inquiry and the results of the inquiry showed that nobody from the Maltese authorities was responsible at any time.

The PN said that it is highly concenred the judicial system in our country ened up being ridiculed by an incompetent government.

This, the PN continued, is a result of a decision taken by the government to sideline various competent individuals from various authoritative positions such as from the Armed Forces of Malta and Transport Malta, only to replace them with other individuals without the necessary competences.

The PN has called on the government to conduct an inquiry while also urging it to publish the results of the inquiry.
