Malta Independent Monday, 22 September 2014, 11:03 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Communications and Media Relations Unit of the Police Force has confirmed that a number of hunters who participated in yesterday’s illegal protest in Valletta and those who attacked bird watchers with stones at Buskett have been arrested.

The man who was spotted brandishing a fake shot gun during the protest was also arrested. It is illegal to carry a firearm, or fake one in public.

Around 200 hunters took to the streets yesterday after the government closed down the hunting season earlier following repeated shooting of protected birds over the past few days.

A journalist and a photographer were also injured as a result of yesterday’s incidents. Hunters also hurled objects at the Labour Party club in Republic Street while footage of a hunter burning a Labour Party flag also surfaced online.
