UHM questions whether fuel market is liberalised

Wednesday, 28 January 2015, 13:37 Last update: about 10 years ago

The Union Haddiema Maghqudin has questioned whether the fuel sector is in fact liberalised in the light of a case where a fuel pump station owner was asked to refrain from offering motorists a cheaper price for diesel.

It also has expressed concern over the fact that pressure was made by individuals operating in the industry for the petrol pump station in question to revise its prices and bring its prices in line with other petrol stations.

The UHM said that this goes against the basic principle of market liberalisation.

The union urged the government to raise the issue with the MCESD and explain how the system works and how the prices are being determined.

While on the subject of fuel prices, the UHM asked the government when it would be revising fuel prices.
