ARMS Ltd – the utilities billing company – has taken action following a report published on this portal and cancelled a €4,600 bill sent to a woman whose property has no electricity meter or supply.
The woman told The Malta Independent last week that she bought the Vittoriosa property two years ago but has since not registered for an energy supply. The property does not have an electricity meter installed. Yet she has been receiving energy bills for the past two years, despite her complaints to ARMS Ltd.
She claimed that she had called ARMS several times, each time explaining that she should not be receiving any bills but said her complaints were falling on deaf ears. Until last week, the outstanding total stood at €4,630.15.
The latest bill – covering the period from December to February - listed a consumption estimate of 386 units. It is believed that ARMS was sending her bills based on the estimated consumption of a previous owner of the property.
The woman has now informed this newsroom that, soon after her story was published on this portal she received a phone call from an ARMS representative who apologised for the mistake and told her that the staggering bill will be cancelled.
