I am not the one to know if there’s enough proof against Giovanna Debono's husband, de Marco says

PN deputy leader Mario de Marco today said that he hasn’t the least idea what has come out so far on the Giovanna Debono case since he is not the one conducting the investigations but it is the police who are.

MaltaToday recently reported that Gozitan contractors came forward offering to substantiate claims about free private construction works paid for by the Gozo Ministry. The case was first revealed by a Gozitan contractor who blew the whistle on Giovanna Debono’s husband, Anthony, who used the ministerial budget to bankroll private jobs for constituents.

Dr de Marco said that the Home Affairs Minister did not give any indication that the investigation has been concluded either so far. “I am not the one to know whether there’s enough proof against Dr Debono’s husband,” he said.

He was replying to questions made by journalists to why Dr Debono has not been suspended from the party as yet when it was suggested by a journalist present for today’s news conference that there’s enough proof that the allegations which surfaced on her husband are true.

Dr de Marco said whether or not action will be taken all depends on the conclusion of the police investigation.

When asked by journalists whether he feels PN secretary general Chris Said’s position is still tenable, when he admitted that he had met with the whistleblower in question on the issue of the free private construction case but had not taken any concrete action, Dr de Marco said that Dr Said gave a clear explanation of how the events unfolded already.
