Government announces two new judges and two new magistrates

The government has just announced that Cabinet has approved the nomination of two new judges and two new magistrates.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti and Magistrate Myriam Hayman become judges in the Superior Court while lawyers Dr Joe Mifsud and Dr Monica Vella become magistrates.

Joe Mifsud is a former international secretary of the Labour Party between 2003-2008

47 years old, he, graduated in law in 2006 after having worked as a journalist for One News and served as secretary-general of the National Youth Council in 1992, president of Forum Zghazagh Laburisti between 1994 and 1999 and then Labour international secretary.

He has practiced in court since 2007 and in 2012 was appointed a commissioner for justice in the local tribunals, and in 2013 a chairman of an appeals board for refugees, and a chairman for the board of local governance.

Dr Monica Vella, 41, has been practicing law since 1998, serving as judiciary assistant in the superior courts since 2009.

She was Labour mayor of Xewkija for 11 years.
