Friday, 3 July 2015, 08:58 Last update: about 10 years ago

The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry noted with satisfaction the general direction taken by government in the new investment in the Health Services Sector, set to take place at the site of the former St Luke's Hospital. This project is considered favourably as it satisfies a number of criteria held in high priority by the Malta Chamber.

As noted on numerous other occasions, the Malta Chamber is in favour of all foreign direct investment, as this is a key factor in Malta's path towards continued economic growth, which is championed by the Malta Chamber. Moreover, the Malta Chamber welcomes investment which is planned to take place in the Health Services sector which is one of the 11 sectors identified by the Malta Chamber in its Economic Vision 2014-2020, which are ripe for growth. Finally the Malta Chamber welcomes the strategic siting of the project which is set to take place at the site of the former St Luke's Hospital.

As clearly explained while reacting to the newly announced Strategic Plan for the Environment and Development (SPED), the government should first and foremost exhaust all possibilities in locating potential investment projects in areas and buildings that have fallen into disuse or are in need of regeneration and redevelopment. This philosophy mitigates the loss of ODZ land, while it brings about the necessary redevelopment to areas that truly need it.Based on the information currently available, in the Malta Chamber's view, this particular investment satisfies all these criteria, and is commended.
