A Bulgarian man has been arrested and brought before the Courts after an EU-wide warrant for his arrest was issued.

50-year-old Ivan Manolov is wanted on murder charges in Greece, which occurred back in 21 July 2010.

Inspector Mario Cuschieri said that the man was arrested and a ‘hit’ was observed on the Schengen information system. The inspector said that the accused had his rights read and that the warrant was presented to the accused at the Police Headquarters.

For his part, the Bulgarian national said he wanted to be extradited back to Greece in order to be able to defend himself in the trial. He will remain under arrest until he is sent back to Greece.

Magistrate Josette Demicoli presided. Dr Donatella Frendo Dimech and Dr Vincienne Vella prosecuted.
