John Dalli, the former European Commissioner for Health, has filed an appeal with the European Court of Justice, after his claim of unfair dismissal from the European Commission was dismissed.
The court had concluded that he resigned voluntarily in October 2012, during a meeting with President Barroso.
The European Court had found that the meeting occurred following the conclusion of an OLAF report, which found that Mr Dalli had been in contact with tobacco industry representatives, holding confidential meetings. OLAF had claimed that circumstantial evidence existed showing Dalli was aware of a €60 million bribe to Silvio Zammit, from Swedish Match and the European Smokeless Tobacco Council (Estoc), to reverse the EU ban on snus tobacco.
