Police mount search for 'Mellieha plane crash' but only find grass fire, all aircraft accounted for

The police conducted a search around the area of Ahrax in Mellieha after receiving reports that a plane might have crashed in the area. According to reports, people spotting a low-flying plane emitting smoke. Later on smoke was seen rising from Ahrax.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the police had mounted a search in the area but found no crash sites.

They did find a grass fire in the area, however, and it is thought that this was what led people to report the “plane crash.”

The police also checked with the Air Control tower, which confirmed that all aircraft scheduled to fly today are accounted for.
