Opposition repeating mistaken arguments about price of fuel – Labour Party

The Opposition is again repeating the mistaken arguments about the price of fuel, the Labour Party said in a statement.

For months, the Opposition Leader has held on to the subject, trying to mislead the public into thinking that they are paying more for fuel than other EU countries, while the facts show otherwise.

The PL noted that statistics by the European Commission confirms that the price of fuel in Malta is 13c lower than the EU average.  The price of fuel in the United Kingdom is 38c more than in Malta.

“ Despite the Opposition’s negativity,  as of the start of the PL’s legislature, the price of petrol has decreased eight times while the price of diesel went down seven times. In an EU survey, 84% of Maltese said that their financial situation is good,” the statement said.

The PL said that during the Nationalist Administration increased the price of fuel by 36% and the price of electricity by 71%, this when the price of oil only went up by 4%.  These decision had cost Maltese families over €1,500 a year.
