Malta should make the most of the Blue Economy opportunities – Miriam Dalli

Next month the European Parliament will vote on a the Blue Economy Policy for the European Union.

MEP Miriam Dalli, who took part in the policy formation process, visited the premises of the Chaudron Company Limited in the limits of Zabbar where she could appreciate up close the boat building work being carried out by family Ciantar.

The Chaudron brand is today internationally renowned, following Aaron and Audrien Ciantar’s participation in the prestigous Powerboat P1 tournaments. Aaron Ciantar has set a histroical record for Chaudron and Malta by becoming world champion for 4 times.

Chaudron was set up in 1998 and the first boats produced were between 16 and 22 foot long. Their immediate succes led them to expand and move to their current premises in Zabbar. Nowadays the company produces any kind of craft, from 13 foot leisure boats up to the massive 45 foot powerbaots which can also reach impressive speeds.

The Ciantar Family explained that mantaining highest possible quality standards is crucial. Miriam Dalli congratuated Chaudron for its professional attittude and its constant attention to detail. “This industry is an important part of the Blue Economy which is far wider than what is traditionally considered. At a time when our continent is facing economic uncertainity coupled with financial pressure we need to start actively considerening our seas as a resources for creating jobs. We need to tap the latent potential of  our seas and equip our workforce with the needed skills  to make the most of the new opportunities that will arise,” said the Maltese MEP.
