PL’s Franco Mercieca and PN’s Chris Said to speak in favour of tunnel between Malta and Gozo

It’s quite uncommon that someone from Labour and someone from the Nationalist Party see eye to eye.

But it seems that two Gozitan MPs have waived aside their differences as they seek a common goal – the building of a tunnel that links Malta to Gozo.

The Malta Independent has just received notice that a press conference will take place tomorrow to launch what will be known as the Front Favur il-Mina (The Front in favour of the Tunnel).

Gozitan MPs Franco Mercieca, from Labour, and the PN’s former secretary general, Chris Said, are to address the media event as they are both in favour of the project.

The issue has been going on for quite a while, with the ideas of having a bridge or a tunnel being debated for years on end. But now the Labour government seems inclined to favour the building of a tunnel,  and feasibility studies are in place.

Gozo Minister Anton Refalo has suggested that a referendum takes place to decide on the issue.
