A motorcyclist lost her life this morning following a crash with a truck in Lija, The Malta Independent has learnt.

The victim is Italian Johanna Boni, aged 27.

The police said the accident took place in Labour Avenue at 8am.

The woman biker, who was riding a Kawasaki ER6N, died on impact, while the truck driver, a Mellieha man aged 52, was taken to hospital suffering from shock. 

The bike ended up under the truck.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera ordered an inquiry. The police from the Birkirkara district are investigating.

In another accident, a 66-year-old biker from Xewkija Gozo is in critical condition after the bike he was riding was involved in an accident in Xewkija, the police said.

The accident happened in Mgarr Road at about 7.30am.

The bike, a Guanjun GJ110, was involved in a crash with a Toyota Hiace van driven in the same direction, towards the Mgarr Harbour.

The 55-year-old van driver, who lives in Victoria, was unhurt.
