Disabled people have a role in hospitality - MHRA

The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) has organized an information session for members in collaboration with ETC about the latest developments and method of implementation of the revised legislation regulating the employment of persons with disability with specific reference to the hospitality sector.

MHRA President Mr Tony Zahra stated that the initiative spearheaded by ETC to encourage the employment of persons with disability is positive and that following consultation, MHRA members are now more confident about its potential for success and positive impact on our society. Mr Zahra stressed that business organizations are an important organ of society and as such cannot be operated in a vacuum without address the social needs and realities that surround them.

Mr Zahra also expressed satisfaction that the ETC through Fondazzjoni Lino Spiteri will be offering support to MHRA members in facilitating the process of employing persons with disabilities across their line of operations, and thanked Mr Clyde Caruana ETC chairman for adopting recommendations presented by MHRA in particular the exemption from fines imposed in 2015 to members who will be certified compliant in 2016.

Mr Clyde Caruana pledged support to MHRA members in helping them become compliant in this regards and also made reference to various initiatives that ETC and MHRA are jointly exploring to improve the skills of the workforce in the hospitality sector.
