General Workers Union contradicts Union Haddiema Maqghudin on bus drivers’ timetables

Saturday, 6 February 2016, 09:59 Last update: about 9 years ago

The General Workers’ Union strongly contradicts what the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin Voice of the Workers’ CEO was reported as saying that the UĦM cannot take any action as the current collective agreement for public transport employees, set by the GWU, does not allow for actions to be taken if there are discrepancies within the issued bus drivers’ timetable.

Contrary to what the UHM The Voice of Workers’ CEO stated, during the last two years (November 2014, April 2015 and November 2015) the General Workers’ Union resorted to various industrial actions, including on discrepancies in the working timetable whenever they occurred. Furthermore, the same UĦM supported such actions regarding these discrepancies.

Therefore, it is unacceptable that the lack of timely action by the UĦM Voice of the Workers that now represent the public transport employees, be attributed to the GWU; when it was the GWU that always took action to safeguard the interests of its members and the workers of MPT when it did not accept drivers’ duties with discrepancies.
