‘Predictable’ Xarabank turning people into village clowns – Andrew Azzopardi

Broadcaster Andrew Azzopardi writes this morning that Malta’s most popular TV programme Xarabank needs to be re-invented as it has become too predictable and, more so, has taken to the tendency of turning respectable people into village clowns.

Writing his blog for The Malta Independent online, Dr Azzopardi – whose TV talk-show on PBS was cancelled after one season but is still present on radio every Saturday – said that “the model is pretty much the same year after year.  An unruly audience and a narrative chased almost obsessively from one week to another.”

Dr Azzopardi adds that Xarabank should not be considered as the platform that will solve all of Malta’s social problems.

He also contests the latest fund-raising activity for Puttinu Cares that was held during last Friday’s edition of Xarabank, questioning how the Broadcasting Authority allowed the event to take place and how Agenzija Appogg approved the exposure of vulnerable children.
