A 20-year-old Frenchman who was walking along the Birkirkara Bypass was assaulted and robbed after he got in an argument with a driver who almost ran him down, the police said.

The incident happened at 1pm.

Police said the driver assaulted the pedestrian with an iron bar and stole his bag,. 

His injuries were described as serious.
