Malta will be hosting an informal summit with European Leaders on 3 February to discuss the future of the EU.
EU Council President Donald Tusk said, in a meeting with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat earlier this month, that Malta is the member state best equipped to enter this responsibility which will set the tone for Europe’s agenda. This comes at a time where Europe is going through a period of reflection on the number of decisions which need to be taken in the near future.
Discussions started last week in Bratislava, and Malta will be the member state that will see the implementation of the European idea focusing on the single market for job creation and social policy to provide a better quality of life.
This will be the second summit on a European level to be organised in Malta. In November 2015, European leaders and African leaders met to discuss aid packages and the migration crisis.
