The GRTU is to gather Paceville’s stakeholders together with officials from the Planning Authority to thrash out how the €300 million master plan unveiled for the locality earlier this week will be implemented and how, from a practical point of view, Paceville’s businesses will be affected.

Speaking yesterday to The Malta Independent on Sunday, the GRTU’s President for Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure Philip Fenech welcomed the plans made public for consultation this week.

“We have been saying for a long time that tourism zones need to be managed in a holistic way, after the industry grew in a piecemeal fashion without a strategy in place, and with people simply building on the success of others.

“What has been done for Paceville, with the master plan launched this week, should be replicated in other tourism-heavy areas such as Bugibba and Valletta. This is definitely the way forward.”

With regard to Paceville, Mr Fenech added: “What is important is that we take stock of the strengths and weaknesses – such as traffic, refuse collection and social integration – and ensure that future developments address these issues holistically.”
