A 23-year-old man from Ta’ Xbiex was sentenced to three years imprisonment after he was admitted to committing fraud against GO plc.

Police officers arrested Daniele Aquilina after he was found to be breaching previous bail conditions by driving around past his court ordered curfew.

The accused admitted to fraud, using a stolen identity card and making false declarations on a commercial document before Magistrate Saviour Demicoli, presiding over the case.

He admitted that on 26 July 2013, Mr Aquilina entered into a mobile contract using a stolen identity card, defrauding GO by not less than €230 but not more than €2,300.

He also admitted to breaching the conditions of a probation order handed down on 15 March 2011 by Magistrate Consoelo Scerri Herrera as well as breaching conditions of bail handed down by Magistrate Saviour Demicoli, Magistrate Edwina Grima and Magistrate Antonio Micallef.

When the accused was arraigned before Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras for breaching conditions of bail, Inspector Kylie Borg explained that the accused had told the police that he was on the road, in breach of curfew, because of a dispute with his girlfriend.

Inspector Kylie Borg prosecuted against the accused before Magistrate Saviour Demicoli, and was defended by Lawyer Alfred Abela.

In his judgement, Magistrate Demicoli said that because the accused had chosen a life of crime, the charges had to be taken seriously and a prison term handed down.
