Parliamentary Secretary for the EU Presidency Ian Borg this morning presented some of the main points which the Maltese Presidency will discuss in its busy agenda.

The full programme for the Presidency will be launched in December and as Ian Borg explained, Malta always wanted the immigration issue to be on top of the agenda.

Addressing the MEUSEC Core group meeting, Dr Borg said that the Maltese Presidency will have to be put into a context which reflects the social aspect in the EU countries and the challenges being faced by its citizens.

"EU citizens sometimes feel that the decisions regarding their own country are being taken in Brussels. But then we forget that it is our representatives which take those decisions for us."

The Maltese Presidency will kick off with a meeting between senior officials in the EU and African nation's representatives to take stock of the deal following the immigration Summit held in Malta. This meeting will be held in January. Dr Borg said that this meeting will be one of the most important as it is "our duty to give answers to EU citizens."

He explained that the Presidency will also be tasked with discussing three proposals; reform of the Dublin Treaty, EASO's transformation into a fully-fledged agency and the Blue Card Directive.
