Over the past few days, the Planning Authority moved into the area around the peninsula of Delimara and carried out a direct action operation to clear the scenic coastline of illegal structures that over the years sprouted and for which contravenors ignored several warnings for their removal.

The direct action operation addressed and closed off five enforcement notices which included the demolition and removal of a kiosk and other structures within a site area looking over St. Peter's Pool. Within this same site, an agricultural field which was turned into a car park without a permit was return back to its original state.       

In the area known as Kalanka t-Twallija, the Authority demolished a number of rooms which were  predominantly used as a residence together with a structure that was roofed over with a timber canopy. On the same site 2 pools which were used for bird trapping activities and other paving works were also removed.

 

Other illegal structures that were removed along the peninsula included a number of rooms used for hunting practices and extensions to pre-1967 rooms construction for recreational purposes.

The Authority decided to act, after over the past weeks, it had put pressure on a number of contravenors that the Authority's patience was running out. Most of the contravenors co-operated fully with the Authority and removed the illegal structures themselves while a handful opted to test the Authority's muscle. 

Over the past weeks, the Enforcement Directorate within the Planning Authority  also carried out a direct action operation at a large agricultural field in Ta'Qali, limits of Attard, which over the past months had been turned into a dumping site. The site was returned back to its original state.
