PN slams government for hiring relatives of government ministers in public positions

The Nationalist Party has slammed government for employing relatives of Cabinet ministers in public positions.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat should take a lesson from his Socialist French friends, the PN said in a statement.  "Over the past hours, they showed us how things should occur in politics. The French Home Affairs Minister had to resign after being caught employing his daughters while he was occupying a public post."

Recently, the French Interior Minister resigned pending a probe after a report was published alleging that the minister's two daughters who he employed as Parliamentary Assistants claimed that they were not performing all of the work.

"Prime Minister Joseph Muscat defends this corruption through public funds. Muscat's Cabinet has many examples of Ministers' relatives occupying public positions.

As an example, the PN mentioned Sai Mizzi, Minister Helena Dalli's two children "given jobs and contracts in different ministries," and Gozo Minister Anton Refalo's wife "who works in his ministry."

"The PN does not agree with this sort of nepotism, and a new government led by Simon Busuttil will not allow ministers to employ relatives with them."
