Police interrogations starting to be filmed rather than written - Minister Abela

Friday, 24 March 2017, 13:01 Last update: about 8 years ago

Audio Visual equipment has been installed in four police interrogation rooms around Malta, meaning that the recording of interrogation through writing is slowly starting to be replaced with that of AV recording. Minister for Home Affairs Carmelo Abela announced it this morning.

The new systems, installed in Mosta, Mtarfa, Paola and Zejtun, will allow police officers in the interrogation room to record the whole session through video and audio.

Such equipment would allow more information to be analysed via the recording, such as the body language of the person.

Minister Abela informed that audio visual equipment will be installed in police stations in other locations in the coming weeks; namely in Gozo, Hamrun, Qawra and Sliema, amongst others.
