Flyover at Kappara Junction open by end of September

The flyover set up at the Kappara Junction will be open by end of September while the resurfacing of the bridge will be carried out during the month of July.

This latest update on one of the government's biggest infrastructural projects was given by the Minister for Transport Ian Borg. The Minister, accompanied by Minister Helena Dalli and Parliamentary Secretary Aaron Farrugia, said that the project is both on budget and on time.

He explained that this is the first project which will be completed thanks to the EU funds allocated for the years 2014 - 2020.

Borg said that various governments have debated on what possible solutions Malta needs to combat the issue of traffic. He said it is through these infrastructural projects that government manage to progress in this regard.  

Parliamentary Secretary for EU funds and Social Dialogue Aaron Farrugia, who was among the first politicians to formally step on the newly built flyover, said that such big projects are a must of a successful in infrastructure.

Minister Helena Dalli said that this visit to the project coincides with the conclusion of the EU Presidency. "The theme for our presidency was Reunion, and I believe that it is through these projects that the public truly reconnects with the European Union. Such investments show how the EU's decisions affect the public." In the presence of the President of the European Court of Auditors Klaus-Heiner Lehne, Minister Dalli said that the authorities have the duty to put the public's mind at rest and show that their money is being well-spent.

The Court of Auditors President said that it is clear that the project makes sense and besides policies and measures, results in this regard are also very important.

The whole Kappara Junction project will be completed by end of this year. The Marsa junction project will kick start soon after.
