On the feast of St Peter and St Paul, which marks the 1950th anniversary of the martyrdom of the saints, Archbishop Charles Scicluna called on the catholic community to have their voices heard in his homily today.

Last week Scicluna saidexpressed his objection to the amendments to the Marriage act, which will grant full marriage equality for same-sex couples, in  a homily for the feast of St Nicholas in Siggiewi, saying that the Church respected homosexuals but marriage should always be a union between people of a different sex, a union that leads to procreation

The Archbishop said it was a moment to celebrate the foundations of the Catholic church.

He called on the people to start learning from their roots, and not from the fashions of the modern world.

He said the community should unite and let their voice be heard, as they were "not a small herd" but members of "a large family" who were not scared from the public hysteria that says they are antiquated and closed minded.

"We are celebrating a universal Catholic faith that is not dying. The fashion of this world passes, just as the image of this world passes, but the word of the Lord remains forever."
