Citizenship for sale must be stopped, Muscat behaviour ‘appalling’ - PANA chairman

Thursday, 26 October 2017, 11:28 Last update: about 8 years ago

The PANA committee chairman said that the sale of Maltese passports to non-EU residents cia the individual investor programme must stop

"It is unbelievable that Prime Minister Muscat is still actively advertising the Golden Visa Programme. The Maltese Government has a very questionable reputation anyway these days, and the Prime Minister's behaviour a few days after the death of Daphne Galizia Caruana is simply appalling." said Werner Langen MEP, Chairman of the European Parliament Inquiry Committee on the Panama Papers.

Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat lauded the Maltese citizenship programme at a conference in Dubai yesterday. "Citizenships of EU countries guarantee free movement throughout the EU. There is a joint responsibility and it is an offence by those countries that operate such citizenship programmes. I call on the European Commission to take action and put an end to citizenship for sale in the EU", Langen concluded.
