A fisherman was evacuated to safety by the Armed Forces of Malta on Monday evening, the Department of Information said today.

Late yesterday evening, MRCC Rome requested the assistance of Rescue Coordination Centre Malta, following a distress call from an Italian fishing vessel after one of its crew members needed urgent medical attention.

An Italian Navy Vessel provided initial medical assistance to the fisherman who was then air lifted off the vessel early this morning by an AFM AW139 helicopter. The man was taken to AFM’s Air Wing and transferred to hospital by ambulance.
