The Naxxar local council this morning said that it has been kept in the dark on an incinerator project at Maghtab, which falls under the council’s responsibility.

The council expressed its concern in a motion that was presented by mayor AnneMarie Muscat Fenech Adami and seconded by councilor Marianne Cuomo.

The only information the council has is from media reports, which say that the project will cover a substantial area of land, will be 70 metres high and will take in 40 per cent of the country’s waste.

The council is requesting an urgent meeting with Environment Minister Jose Herrera and experts linked with the project. It then plans to hold a meeting for residents to explain the situation.
