Concern about protruding trees on Maltese roads has dramatically increased over the past day, after the accident which caused the death of two tourists and injured 50 others in Zurrieq.

A woman, Lilian Chetcuti Riolo, has uploaded a video on Facebook showing a tree that protrudes dangerously on the road near the Lija cemetery as one is travelling towards Birkirkara.

It is clear that there have been some near misses already, as the branch that overlies the road has already been hit, the marks of the impact clearly showing.

The woman urges the authorities to take note and take action before other accidents occur.

Today, a passenger in a truck was injured when the vehicle crashed into a tree in Rabat.
