An 18-year-old man is in police custody after attacking his parents with a knife in Birkirkara, the police said today.

The incident took place in Dun Vincenz Saliba Street at 1am.

Police officers from the Rapid Intervention Unit were called to the residence where they found the injured couple.

The father, aged 49, and the mother, aged 43, were both taken to hospital where the man was found to have suffered grievous injuries while the woman was slightly hurt.

The teenager was arrested.
