World champion Flora Duffy won the inaugural world series triathlon at her Bermuda home by a crushing 96 seconds on Saturday.

Duffy became the first woman in series history to win a race after leading all three disciplines, including a 40-kilometer solo bike ride.

"That wasn't my plan," she said. Duffy hoped to be part of a small breakaway group out of the swim, but found herself on her own. "So I thought, 'Well, I guess I am going 40 kilometers solo.'"

Vicky Holland of Britain was second in a photo finish with Katie Zaferes of the United States.

Norway swept the men's podium for the first time in the series.

Casper Stornes won his first series triathlon, followed by compatriots Kristian Blummenfelt and Gustav Iden. Stornes made his break on the bike, and started the run with a 90-second leg and stayed strong.

"We have done this almost every day (in winter training), so it is just unbelievable to do it in a competition as well," Iden said. "I don't think many people thought that it was possible like four years ago, but we are here and we are ready to take the world."
