Complete disarray and chaos filled Paceville’s roads yesterday when Transport Malta failed to provide any signs or officials to inform drivers on road closures. As a result, long tailbacks and chaos were caused, with motorists unable to make their way around the locality.

Reports reached this newsroom that drivers were left waiting for over two hours on the same road.

Unannounced plans by Transport Malta to simultaneously re-do all the roads in the area started last week. The St Julian’s local council was also not notified of the works taking place and only hearing of the work through the grapevine. In turn, no residents in the area were ever informed about the disruption and inconvenience due to take place during the week.

Over the last week several roads have been dug up and are being resurfaced, including the upgrading of entry and exit roads.

However, such little warning was given that cars were parked on the roads that needed to be dug up. The cause of Wednesday evening’s chaos was the closure of the tail end, near Portomaso, of Dragonara Road where no signs or officials were placed at the beginning of the road near St George’s Bay to warn drivers of its closure. In fact, one motorist told this newsroom that she was re-directed by policemen at the Pender Gardens area to use Dragonara Road.

The lack of warning led to drivers driving up a one way road, unable to reverse back, with dozens of cars pilling up behind from all directions. One driver told this newsroom that drivers ended up abandoning their cars for a few hours with dozens of car left at a complete standstill.
