When the PM does not know how to spell ‘fathers’ in Maltese

Sunday, 17 June 2018, 14:57 Last update: about 7 years ago

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat wanted to wish all fathers a happy Father’s Day.

He wanted to do so in Maltese, but it seems that his spelling is not that good in the mother language.

As seen in screenshot, in his tweet Joseph Muscat spelt fathers in Maltese as “missierijiet” – when the correct spelling is “missirijiet”.

It is one basic rule in Maltese language that no word in Maltese could contain more than one “ie” – and so “missier” (father) becomes “missirijiet” (fathers).

We wish him a happy father’s day too.
