Foundation started by PC Schembri for injured members of emergency services given €1,060

Thursday, 12 July 2018, 18:16 Last update: about 7 years ago

PC Simon Schembri and Inspector Herman Mula have been presented with a €1,060 by the Director of the Department of Civil Protection for the Blue Light Foundation, an organisation which they founded.

The main objective of the Blue Light Foundation is to create a fund to benefit those members of emergency services including paramedics, police and members of the Civil Protection who suffer from an accident in the performance of their duties.

Schembri, 48, lost an arm and was critically injured in a hit and run incident earlier this year.

The fund was raised by workers within the department and through activities organised by the same apartment, which were attended by Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia.

ARO Jonathan Callus has been appointed as the representative of the department within the foundation.

During the presentation Schembri also presented a letter of appreciation to the Director of the Department of Civil Protection for their gratitude and the immediate intervention or ARO Luca Crisafulli on the day of the incident.

Donations already received from the public will be placed in the fund
