St Julian's Mayor Guido Galli has, while expressing his appreciation for the sand nourishment exercise at Balluta bay, questioned whether it was necessary to start works today, on a weekend.

In a Facebook post, the Mayor said that this is the only bay in St Julian's where people normally go and swim regularly, yet today could not.

He also questioned why such banners were attached to the metal barriers up top during the week of the Balluta feast.

The Planning Authority had applied to re-nourish the sandy beach at Balluta Bay, using sand from the seabed within the same bay.
