Two elderly women who were riding as passengers in a car involved in a crash were taken to hospital with serious injuries, the police said.

The accident took place in Mikiel Anton Vassalli Street (Regional Road) at 1.30am.

It involved a Ford Fiesta driven by a Romanian man aged 30, who resides in Valletta, and a BMW 520 driven by a 74-year-old man of Attard.

The two women, aged 62 of Marsa and 86 of Hamrun, were taken to hospital, with the latter suffering serious injuries.
