Labour MEP slams government for ‘barbaric’ way chosen to eliminate pigeons

Outgoing Labour MEP Marlene Mizzi has slammed the Labour government for what she described as a “barbaric” way to eliminate pigeons by “poisoning” them.

Website LovinMalta reported that the Cabinet has approved recommendations made by the Environmental Health Directorate to help tackle pigeon excretion and noise. The green light has now been given to the Association of Local Councils to catch pigeons and place them in large cages. Trapped pigeons, where they will then be given certain food that will allow them to die a natural death.

This is not acceptable, Marlene Mizzi said on her Facebook page.

“I have written to Minster José Hererra urging him not to consider any method which ignores the fact that all animals are sentient beings.

“Closing pigeons in cages and poisoning them is barbaric. NOT ON!

I am confident and hopeful that the Minster will take a sensible decision.”
